5 Books

New years resolutions are not my favourite things.  Firstly, I can’t stick to them.  By February they are gone and forgotten and I usually feel vaguely guilty about it.  Secondly, I’d like to think  that if there was something I wanted or needed to do that badly, I’d be able to tackle it anytime during the year.

This year I made a slight exception.  You see, there is this list of books I’ve been wanting to read for the longest time but I just haven’t gotten there.  I get sidetracked by instant gratification buys because most of these are not readily available in my local book store.  So, I thought I would make a deal with myself to read these books in 2012!  And to not buy any others until I do….okay, maybe not that last part.  Without further ado, here are my 5 books for 2012:

  1. South of the Border, West of the Sun - Haruki Murakami
  2. Atonement - Ian McEwan
  3. Slaughterhouse-Five - Kurt Vonnegut
  4. Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
  5. The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath

In completely unrelated news, I found the cutest site this morning!  Click the link to see Fuzzy Potter and a dancing rainbow kitty!

  1. I've read all but 1 on your list ... 3 and 4 are two of my favorite books of all time. I hope you enjoy them, too!

If you find that you like the Utopian/Dystopian genre after reading Brave New World, let me know and I can give you some other titles to read. I fell in love with the genre after taking a class on it in college and have a bunch of similarly good reads to offer up. :)

  3. Aw, thank you! :D (And thank you for using a button! I'm always so honored and surprised when I stumble across them, haha!)

I think I'm going to be quite a fan of yours as well; seems like we've got a lot in common. :)

    As far as books go:
    1984—George Orwell
    We—Yevgeny Zamyatin
    Amnesia Moon—Jonathan Lethem
    Herland—Charlotte Perkins Gilmore
    The Giver—Lois Lowry
    V for Vendetta—Alan Moore

That should be a good start, although you might have read a few of these. Also, you've totally inspired a future obsessed. post.

And now I shall stop with this ridiculously long comment. <3
