Another week done and dusted. Is it just me or is January flying by? I'll assume it's not just me because that's better for my sanity! Here's what caught my attention this week:
Saint Exupery lands at last. Did you know the creator of The Little Prince went MIA during World War II? I did not...
So January is officially in full swing. I am back at work, back to blogging, back to trying to be healthy and almost back to derby. Here's my first list of internet goodness for 2014:
Happy December you guys. Can't believe there are only 31 days left of 2013!! Rolo the hamster got an early Christmas present this afternoon when I cleaned his cage which is why this picture is at the tops of this week's list:
I might have posted this before but how hilarious are these cats in tights??
Although if I had these super cute Totoro tights I would not put them on my cat (if I had a cat).
I am busy reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and its making me want to learn to pick locks. I think I need these lock pick earrings to get me started.
How cute is this Winnie the Pooh Oh Bother supercut from Disney? Still one of my very favourite characters:
The 30 Greatest Comic Book Moments of 2013. I haven't read all of these but I think the exchange between Harley Quinn and the Green Arrow is my favourite. And the puppy bomb.
If you're a regular reader, you may have noticed that none of my usual posts appeared over the weekend. To cut a long story short, I go completely sidetracked by my birthday festivities that I didn't get around to posting. I also realised that I have an essay due next Monday and a weekend away coming up which means I am a little pressed for time right now. I have decided to take a mini blog break to finish my essay and enjoy my weekend away with my folks. I'll be back next week Tuesday with a catch-up and hopefully I'll finally have time to put together the posts I have floating around in my head. In the meantime, here is a video of a sleepy pug:
Believe it or not, this is the last Sunday in September. That means my birthday is just short of two weeks away and Christmas is around the corner. And I am not kidding about the Christmas part, I have already seen Christmas chocolates and decorations in the stores!! Earlier and earlier every year!! Anyway, here is what I loved this week:
I am in the midst of a huge Pug obsession, hence the Pugsession title. I have always wanted a dog with a squishy face and for ages my breed of choice was an English Bulldog. Then it was a Boston Terrier. Then a French Bulldog. And now, Pugs. I want ALL OF THE PUGS. Anyway, I was browsing Pinterest in search of pictures of my future dog when I stumbled across this video:
Adorable right? Future pug will definitely have an Avengers outfit or two.
Happy Spring guys!! I am so excited about the end of winter it's a little bit ridiculous. I am excited for less layers, potential water world visits and the ability to wear the other half of my closet. Also, it's my birthday in a month and eleven days...the big 3-oh. Very excited to celebrate even if it is the end of a decade! Now, on to this week's list:
Finally got my hands on The Ocean At The End Of The Lane...yay!
Gummi Storm Troopers. This is such a cool idea and I can assure you that I will be purchasing a bag of gummi bears and adorning them with all our mini figs head gear.
I got to meet my friend Liz's new gerbils this week. Their names are Mac and Cheese and they are the friendliest little dudes:
I am off to track down the band announcements for next year's Ramfest. Considering they are bypassing Durban again despite a good response this year, I am secretly hoping the line-up sucks. Or not...there's been rumour that Biffy Clyro are coming to our part of the world. I'll forgive them if it's Biffy.
I can't believe it's Sunday already. This week has flown by in a haze of frustration and essay writing. On the bright side, I got an unexpected and quite substantial essay extension...hooray! That means I can get back to some sort of blogging schedule this week. Anyway, here's what I loved this week:
Happy Sunday everyone. Its been a very quiet weekend in these parts. I have a ton of reading to do and an essay to write so I've been desk bound. That said, procrastination is great for finding additions to today's list of things I love:
Journalism is not narcissism. An interesting read from Gawker about the line between journalism and confessionals.
Last weekend, three different people sent me pictures of skateboarding mice. I found out later that it's an actual thing!! I also found out that my friends know me really well:)
Right now the internet is full of news of the upcoming San Diego Comic Con and, as per usual, the desire to be there myself is overwhelming. It's definitely one of our long term goals to go. We'll need a ton of cash though because I know I will want to buy ALL OF THE THINGS. Daydreams aside, here's what I loved this week:
Malala Yousafzai is AMAZING. Not only did she stand up to the Taliban and survive an assassination attempt but she's also addressed the UN on her 16th birthday.
The Secret Toy Society is possibly one of the coolest ideas I have seen in a long time. Basically you make a toy and leave it somewhere for someone to find. Just the idea makes me smile.
Yesterday I went into the pet shop to buy The Stinker some food...bad idea. They happened to have a baby albino hedgehog and it was quite possibly the cutest thing I have ever seen.* I have always loved the idea of having a little hedgehog buddy and it took all my willpower to leave the store with only a bag of hamster food. Just look at how cute they are:
So I have terrible time management skills. Really, really terrible time management skills. I have time to update the blog, I think I should update the blog but then I sit on the couch and watch T.V. I didn't even get half of my reading done this week. Anyway, I'm already more organized this week so hopefully I can get back to a more regular posting schedule. Fingers crossed. Now onto Things I Love:
This step-by-step guide to Thriller would have come in handy at Collette's wedding. We could only remember moves 19 and 20 and decided we were doing The Velociraptor instead. Fun times.
This ad campaign for Reporters without Borders does an amazing job highlighting the dangers of censorship. Pretty pertinent seeing they've finally passed the Secrecy Bill:(
Today I made Hello Kitty cupcakes. They turned out awesomely. Probably because they came from a box. I'll share my adventures in baking later this week but in the meantime I leave you with this:
And lastly, here are the 30 Happiest Facts of All Time. If this doesn't leave you with a smile on your face I just don't know.
Seen anything you love on the internet this week? Let me know in the comments:)
So, I have decided that from April, Things I Love will become a weekly occurrence. Basically, I am just finding too many cool things too quickly for the fortnightly version and I'd like to at least try and keep things current around here;)
Have you heard of Dachshund UN? It's a sitting of the UN Human Rights Commission staged with Dachshunds! The cuteness is overwhelming...
Although you'd never tell from this weekend, Winter is heading our way. I definitely need this Yoda hoodie and this Totoro one to make sure I stay warm and cozy.
I have been trying to start my first academic essay which is due on the 8th of April and it's a misson. I am so out of practice. Thats way I thought the Essay Typer was such a fun idea...not that I would use it of course...
Goodbye to All of That is a beautiful essay by Joan Didion that makes me want to live in New York and stay away from New York all at once. It also makes me want to pick up a pen and write which is always a good thing.
Found anything you love lately? Feel free to add it to the comments.
This week has been quiet mostly. Not having a car really puts a damper on things...no sushi, no lunchtime excursions and relying on lifts to get everywhere. Hopefully we'll get the car back this week and things can return to normal. In other news, after a long morning at the varsity yesterday, I am officially a registered student again. My student card photo is awful but the fact that it says Postgrad kind of makes up for it. My mom and dad are awesome for coming to fetch me at a ridiculous time and then sitting around waiting for me to finish..thanks guys. Now on to other things I love...
The Upside of Distraction proves that sometime distraction is a good thing. Nice to hear when you're like me and battle to focus for too long.
We went to watch the very awesome Van Coke Kartel on Friday night. It was a fun, fun night.
Daily Dishonesty is an awesome project by a hungry graphic designer. These beautifully illustrated lies are one's we're all guilty of. Originally seen on the Happiness Is blog...one of my favourites.
The Daily Otter provides you with a daily dose of otter cuteness. From the makers of the Daily Bunny.
I am coveting this shirt from the Orphan's Arms. So nice.
Good afternoon and welcome to the first collection of things I love in 2013. I have been man down with some silly virus for the last four days meaning I have had plenty of time to peruse the internet for randomness. Hope you enjoy:)
The Great Gatsby is on of my all time favourite books. I love the story, I love the way it was written and I love the 1920s. Anyway, I am eagerly anticipating the movie and, if you click here, you can see some great character posters and watch the newest trailer. Thanks Mandy for sharing this.
Would you look at the awesomeness of this Skull Pendant Light on Etsy? I would be super stoked to have this hanging in my house.
And speaking of skulls, I happened upon a Sass Diva 50% of sale the other day and walked away with this great little skull necklace. Its a little different to my normal neckwear but I just couldn't resist!
We had a quiet New Years this year so we missed out on any fireworks but this video of fireworks in reverse more than makes up for it:
LEGO are making a Marvel video game!! Such awesome news. I have played the Harry Potter and Star Wars LEGO adaptations and loved both. This one will feature Wolverine and Loki among others. Officially excited.
Staying with LEGO, they are also releasing an official Back to the Future set! I might actually be tempted to buy this one!
These pictures show what paint looks like before the tint is mixed in. So unusual.
**Every week this month, I am going to attempt to post some kind of review/recap of this year, starting with Rolo because who doesn't need some extra cuteness in their lives??
All my life I've had pets. Big ones, small ones, giant ones. I grew up with a Great Dane called Kelly who tripped my dad, broke his boat and watched my food for me while I toddled around. I had a cat called Tiger who was bad tempered beyond belief and only loved you on his terms. I've had goldfish and hamsters that I thought were girls and who turned out to be boys. I had three amazing dogs who put up with me styling their hair, crying into their fur and trying to coax them into the pool to swim with me...I still miss them! I've had birds called Woodstock and Murphy and Tidbit who all ended up flying away somehow or another. Most recently, I have had rodents - Sullivan and Stinky the mice and now Rolo the hamster. It's amazing how much personality such a small little creature can have. He is a toast addict who begs for food so often you'd think we never feed him. He rolls over all the time, falls off his slide and likes to keep toilet paper in his food pouches for reasons I will never understand. He is my substitute dog and in January he will be a year old. Every time I swear not to get another pet because of the heartbreak of losing them, I remember the difference it makes to have another little life in the house and I get sucked in all over again:) Anyway, enough with the rambling, here are some pics of Rolo from this year:
In the beginning..
In the toilet roll...
Munching...
Begging...
Snoozing...
And that is pretty much how he spends his day! The luck of some!!
