Things I Love #68

It's been a good Sunday.  I slept in, Jason bought breakfast with hash browns, I finished my varsity reading and went for a little skatey skate.  Here's some other things I loved this week.

Forensic scientists create the face of Crystal Skull Vodka.  Creepy cool...

The greatest living animation director explains why he's retiring.  Obviously this is an interview with Hayao Miyazaki...

We Love Fine have an amazing I Am Bee apron dress that looks exactly like Bee's apron.

The ladies from Adventure Time as a moped gang.

Someone please buy me all these Adventure Time socks.

Artist collaborates with bees to create sculptures wrapped in honeycombs.

A Spongebob Watchmen mashup?  Okay...

Will It Beard.  I won't explain, click the link.

Ever wondered what Wolverine would be like as a cat?

Also, click here to see Cyclops cat!

Crazy Google searches animated.  Seriously, what are people doing out there?!?

The forgotten treasures of Gen-X childhood.  I remember some of these...

Wild bunnies swarm a girl with treats.  Adorable not creepy...

Things I Love #65

Well here we are on the second day of February.  If the rest of this year follows January's example then I think 2014 is going to kick some serious ass.  This week I head back to varsity which means that my year is officially back in full swing.  Wish me luck!

This incredible skull was carved from a geode.  So beautiful.

Hilarious black and white portraits of Salvador Dali.

Fried egg font made out of 1000 fried eggs among other things.

Beer flavoured Jelly Beans.  Not so sure about this one...

Become the Batman with Black Milk Clothing.  Love everything here.  Everything.

Winne the Pooh x The Avengers = adorable.

The return of Moon Moon. Seriously, if this link doesn't make you laugh then I just don't know...

Meet Chopper the grumpy astromech droid coming to Star Wars Rebels:

You're Reading Romeo and Juliet wrong.  You're supposed to hate Romeo.

Shiver me timbers! A cork screw that looks like a pirate. Yes please.

Hello Kitty Terminator Cake.

Ultra Realistic Fantasy Dolls.  Except they are not really dolls they are creatures and I want all of them.

21 Revealing sculptures of characters from your childhood.

Artist buys landscape paintings from yard sales, inserts monsters.

This cabinet has everything you need to survive the zombie apocalypse.

Lego are producing a ghostbusters set.  So much excitement about this!

And finally, I leave you with hamsters playing dead.  You"re welcome:

Things I Love #64

Another week done and dusted.  Is it just me or is January flying by?  I'll assume it's not just me because that's better for my sanity!  Here's what caught my attention this week:

Saint Exupery lands at last.  Did you know the creator of The Little Prince went MIA during World War II?  I did not...

There is a Dogs in Cars Calendar and it's pure happiness.

What the Dark Knight would look like as a quirky indie movie:

Animals with Human Personalities.  Such a cool illustrated series by Kim Nguyen.

A ghost ship, filled with cannibal rats is headed for Britain.  Sounds like something from a horror movie!!

Sea creatures getting ready for bed.  So much unexpected cuteness.

Meowls.  That is all.

And lastly, how happy is this Hayao Miyazaki figurine?

Things I Love #59

Happy December you guys.  Can't believe there are only 31 days left of 2013!!  Rolo the hamster got an early Christmas present this afternoon when I cleaned his cage which is why this picture is at the tops of this week's list:

I might have posted this before but how hilarious are these cats in tights??

Although if I had these super cute Totoro tights I would not put them on my cat (if I had a cat).

Duncan Shotton's Rainbow Pencils leave beautiful paper rainbows when you sharpen them.  Such a pretty idea...

5 Rules For Being a Grown-up is about how the "real requirements of life don't require genius, just lots of practice."

I am busy reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay and its making me want to learn to pick locks.  I think I need these lock pick earrings to get me started.

How cute is this Winnie the Pooh Oh Bother supercut from Disney?  Still one of my very favourite characters:

The 30 Greatest Comic Book Moments of 2013.  I haven't read all of these but I think the exchange between Harley Quinn and the Green Arrow is my favourite.  And the puppy bomb.

Check out this awesome collection of the Christmas sweaters worn by the inhabitants of Ooo.

I just love this Skeletal Beauty photo series by Pauline Darley.  Someone come and do my makeup like this please!!

Make boring meals more fun with Manga Plates!!!  Seriously wishing for all of these....

source

The Moment After the Show is a pretty awesome collection of pictures of musicians right after they leave the stage.  Check out the book here.

10 Star Wars Episode VII Fan Posters that are really, really great.  Cautiously optimistic about the new movies...

And finally, I am loving Uetsuji Shotaro's dream-like visions of alien encounters and ghostly visitations.

Things I Love #58

What a week! I've definitely been experiencing a low after the ridiculous high of bout weekend.  I also suddenly have all this free time and I'm not sure what to do with it!!  Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining but seriously, now that life is back to a normal pace, I'm going to have to adjust a bit.  Crazy right?  Anyway, on to other things:

First up, DeviantArt user TsaoShin has re-imagined Grumpy Cat as various Disney characters.  My favourite is Grumpy Cat as Jasmine from Aladdin!!

Andreas Englund has an ongoing series of oil paintings called Aging Superhero that is both gorgeous and a little bit sad.

And on the subject of superheroes, check out this series of noir superhero illustrations by Marko Manev.

Currently on my wishlist?  This Homo Sapien Chalkboard Skull:

source

24 Times Pug Tongues Just Could Not Be Contained.  So much cuteness in this Buzzfeed list.

And in other interesting natural happenings, check out this amazing cloud spotted over Durban on Wednesday.

I know this clip is old but it's the first time I've seen it and it's too awesome not to share:

Apparently there is a Tolkien biopic in the works that will look at the origins of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

If I had this cookie cutter, I would bake ALL THE TIME:

source

This link is pretty much everywhere at the moment but it's such an amazing idea - Toy Dinosaurs Wreak Havoc While Family Sleeps.

Chris Panda has drawn the skeletons into comic book characters and it's a little creepy (but still cool).

Photos of 15 famous authors writing in their rooms.  Love collections like this...

And lastly, Out of Print Clothing have literary jewelry range that is all kinds of amazing  Either one of the East and West Egg and the Slaughterhouse Five ones are my favourite:

Things I Love #56

So here we are, back in November.  This year really has gone by super fast and, with everything going on this month, it's going to be December and Christmas time before we even know it!!  Kind of hard to believe hey?

AMC officially confirms The Walking Dead for Season 5.  YAY!!!

Googly Eye Books is one of the best blogs I have ever laid eyes on.  No pun intended.

This Star Wars blooper reel is all kinds of awesome:

This Lego ring from FORMA Laboratories is all kinds of awesome.  I would put Yoda on mine.

Real life reinterpretations of Studio Ghibli characters.  Totoro remains the cutest character EVER!!

This super awesome hair clip is currently on it's way to me!!  Can't wait:

What Should I Read Next? is an awesome website that recommends your next read.  Love it!

Iconic movie posters by Drew Struzan...so many of my favourite movies here!

How to make me cook more:  buy me this skull pancake mold, this skull baking pan and this skull egg mold:

source
Staying on the subject of skulls, how great is this skull DIY from A Beautiful Mess?

Church of the Jedi...super interesting read.

Have you seen The Simpsons Hobbit couch gag?  So awesome!!

I can't seem to translate this site but it has pictures of some of the quirkiest ceramic art you ever did see!

And finally, I am definitely attempting this galaxy necklace DIY from Oh The Lovely Things.  So simple and effective!

Things I Love #54

This time next week I'll officially be a 30 year old!!  I don't know how it snuck up on me so fast but suddenly, after months of waiting, my birthday is less than a week away!  Eek!  In some ways it feels like turning 30 is some of the best motivation I have ever had.  So many exciting things going on at the moment - birthdays, derby, French lessons and the fact that despite my stresses, I am doing consistently well at varsity makes me a happy girl!  Anyway, here's what I loved this week:

This game!!  We haven't actually played it yet but all information points towards awesome:

I love these nesting dolls inspired by video game characters, especially the Super Mario Bros one.

Hello Kitty contacts anyone?  Not so sure about these actually...

My desk needs these Sushi Memo Blocks ASAP.  I think I'd develop a permanent sushi craving though...

DC vs Marvel Roller Derby art by Kevin Bolk.  These are so super cool!

Dr Lukas Brezak has some of the best skull artwork I have ever seen.  The rest of his stuff is pretty impressive as well.

Mailbooks for Good is possibly one of the coolest ideas I've seen in a while.

Speaking of Halloween, check out Guillermo Del Toro's intro to The Simpsons Tree House of Horror:

And in case you are wondering about all the references, someone has sorted that out for us.  Check out the video here.

If Halloween was a bigger thing in South Africa, I would totally make this googly eye wreath for our door.  In fact I might just do it anyway.

I'd also be taking the lazy route and opting for either this Peppermint Butler dress, this Jake the Dog dress, this Fionna Hooded dress or this Nightmare Before Christmas Sally dress.

And lastly, Pixar's 22 rules of story telling are full of good advice!

Things I Love #51

This weekend has been my first peaceful weekend in like a month.  It was so nice to get out, get some sun and not feel guilty about impending essay deadlines or whatnot.  Here's what I loved on the internet this week:

How cool is this shark onesie?  Actually it's called a Sharkini and I'm not sure I'd really wear it but I like the idea.

I included some of the new Black Milk Harry Potter range on my birthday wishlist but really I want them all.  Check out the full range here.

J.K. Rowling is writing a Harry Potter spin-off movie.  I am cautiously optimistic about this particular piece of news.

And keeping with the Harry Potter theme, can someone please make me these house tie cookies?  Pretty please?

There is such a thing as Hello Kitty Beer!!  It's fruity flavoured and adorably cute:

source

If you ever find yourself in Taiwan, you can stay in a Batman themed room.  Awesome.

These photos of Europe's jeweled skeletons are breathtaking and creepy all at once.

These Villan Affirmation Posters by Christopher Ables are super cool.  I especially like the Professor Snape one.

I may have posted this before but check out The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows.  It's a pretty interesting read.

Look at my new phone cover...so perfect:

Label.M have released a Powder Pink Spray that temporarily turns your hair an awesome shade of pastel pink.  Must have.  Must.

I love this DIY Braided Hex Nut Bracelet from Honestly WTF.  Definitely on my list of things to try.

Wild Birds Flying is a stunning photo series by Paul Nelson.  It features high-speed shots of exactly what the name suggests - Wild Birds Flying.

Star Wars Spin-Offs Will Be Origin Stories.  I quite like this idea to be honest.  I'm hoping for a Boba Fett story..

Check out this super cool Lego art that I bought at yesterday's I Heart Market.  He was created by Big Kid Art who are new to the market and have tons of awesome pieces.  I could've easily walked away with 2 or 3 or 10:

A Curious Bestiary is original art by Kaitlin Beckett and it's the perfect combination of quirky and unusual.

25 Jokes Only Book Nerds Will Understand.  I must admit that I didn't get all of them...

And lastly, I leave you with PuppyCat's Fairy Tale from Bee and PuppyCat.

Things I Love #43

Growing up I was completely anti team sports.  I rode horses and I swam and I was good at those things because it was just me.  I was just too shy to really interact with a team.  Today, I went to buy myself a helmet and skate padding to go with my shiny new skates because I think I have finally found a team sport that I could get into.  It's early days still but so far, I am loving being on skates and I am loving the idea of roller derby.  Now, moving on to other things I love:

Am I too old for a R2-D2 princess dress? Possibly but it's still very cool.

Look at this Lumpy Space Princess Tutu from We Love Fine.  I'd never wear it but it's still pretty to look at.

Also in Adventure Time, Is BMO a Third-Wave Feminist? Super interesting video about all the different things BMO means:

I just love these Macarbre Gadget Skull rings...I'll take one of each please!

If, like me, you were wishing you were at the San Diego Comic Con then check out the round ups on The Mary Sue for Day One, Day Two and Day Three.

Speak, Memory.  A very interesting read from The New York Review of Books about real vs invented memories.

14 Things You Didn't Know About Neil Gaiman.  I only knew one of these...

I don't wear heels but these Batman Heels with Swarovski Crystals and Glitter from Etsy might just change my mind.

Now these I might be more inclined to wear, LEGO Building Brick Slippers from Think Geek:

source

Henry Hargreaves has taken some interesting photos of what musicians order backstage.

This week there has been two awesome articles one on the NY Times and the other on Salon about creating characters. Definitely worth a read.

Something else worth a read is Jon Negroni's Pixar Theory.  I see some re-watching in my future...

I love this Cut Along the Dotted Line jewellery from Etsy seller lapinPetite.  Such a unique idea!

Periodic Tableware is a super awesome Kick Starter to create glassware based on the type of glass equipment used in labs.  Best part, its already fully funded.

A TED Talk that might turn every man who watches it into a feminist.  Worth the 20 mins it takes to watch.

And finally, here is an interesting article from the AV Club about The Art of Death in Superhero Comics.

Things I Love #32

Another Sunday, another Things I Love post. What was supposed to be a fairly busy weekend become a super quiet one which is just as well because it's been cold and wet and perfect for the couch:)

What if all the Disney Princesses were sloths?  Phillip Light shows us exactly how cool that would be.

How great are these floral Porcelain Skulls by NooN?

source
This is a very interesting (and open ended) conversation on cultural appropriation.  While I don't agree with everything that was said, it definitely made me thing.

For every awesome old photo, there is an equally creepy one.  Like these old pictures of humans that look like zombies!

Apparently April the 13th was National Scrabble Day!  The Daily Beast celebrated with this poem to remember all 101 two-letter words!!

I basically want everything in the HoraEffect Etsy store.  Especially this, this and this!

The Sinking World of Andreas Franke is an amazingly beautiful exhibition that's on display 27 metres underwater on a sunken ship!  Crazy!!

This is my favourite part of the English department!  It's even a pun!!

BMO is getting his own Funko Pop Vinyl toy!!  In other Adventure Time news, Finn, Jake and Marceline should be shipping this week.  Can't wait!

Then and Now is an awesome site that has before and after pictures of just about everything.

I might have posted this before but just in case I haven't you should check out Gregoire Guillein's Secret Hero Life collection.  So cool!

I will unashamedly buy all of these Star Wars dog costumes for our future dog.  All of them.

How adorable is this photo of Rolo?  He looks like he's smiling *heart melts*

And finally, Dirty Royal are on YouTube!!  Here's some super awesome live footage from Splashy:

Things I Love #31

Things I have learnt this week:  I am a terrible procrastinator.  If anyone has a magical cure for this I'd love for you to send it my way.  Also, I need to be a bit more organised.  Having a blog schedule is a great idea but I do still have to write the posts.  Anyway, moving along, here are the things I found while procrastinating on the internet this week:

Diana from Our City Lights has the most awesome, pink Hello Kitty kitchen.  If I wasn't allergic to being in the kitchen, I would want mine to be as awesome as this.

Iron Fist have started making nail stickers!!!  And the best part is that they follow the designs they use on their shoes and other accessories.  Even though I could buy them all, I particularly want the Zombie Stompers, American Nightmare and Siesta Skull ones.

Speaking of things I want, I pretty much want all of the nerdy earrings on this list.  All of them.

Also, you can preorder the first issue of the True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys!  There is a variant cover by Gabriel Ba which is equally cool.  After the break up of MCR, my excitement for this comic has increased x 1000.

Mandy from Chocolate and Cream Cake shared this link to a 1987 Nes Great Gastby game and it is too cool.  Also, if you don't already follow her Nerd News on a Thursday you should go and check it out immediately.

Haruki Murakami's new novel was released on Friday.  Its called Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage and I can't wait for a translated version to appear.

Humans of New York Captures Punk's Enduring Influence.  A friend posted this link on Facebook last week and it's pretty cool.

Look at this Adventure Time cake!!!  Seriously starting to wonder if I should change my 30th birthday party them from Star Wars to something more general so I can include my other obsessions...

Storm-Tossed Memories is a collection of photos found after Hurricane Sandy.

And on a lighter note, Found Photos collect random pictures found on file sharing sites.  Pretty interesting what some people choose to share...

This is a pretty interesting article about covering your tattoos.  I am planning a much more visible tattoo this time round so this is a topic I've been thinking about a lot.

It's getting colder in this part of the world and I am desperately searching for interesting tights.  In the meantime, I want everything on this site!  Especially the stars, the polka dots and the stripes.  I love the stripes...

Apparently making your dog wear tights is a new fad in China?  I just think it looks weird...

Why Dogs Rule Literature but Cats Run the Web.  I loved this...

I love these Light Socks.  I would hang them EVERYWHERE!!

Floating Letters Made of Hair and Other Unusual Items.  Type with a difference...

Ida Frosk recreates famous art works as breakfast. Honestly though, I think they are too pretty to eat!

Have you seen anything you love online this week? Feel free to share in the comments:)

Things I Love #24

Good afternoon and welcome to the first collection of things I love in 2013.  I have been man down with some silly virus for the last four days meaning I have had plenty of time to peruse the internet for randomness.  Hope you enjoy:)

The Great Gatsby is on of my all time favourite books.  I love the story, I love the way it was written and I love the 1920s.  Anyway, I am eagerly anticipating the movie and, if you click here, you can see some great character posters and watch the newest trailer.  Thanks Mandy for sharing this.

Would you look at the awesomeness of this Skull Pendant Light on Etsy?  I would be super stoked to have this hanging in my house.

And speaking of skulls, I happened upon a Sass Diva 50% of sale the other day and walked away with this great little skull necklace.  Its a little different to my normal neckwear but I just couldn't resist!

In need of some cuteness?  Here are the 40 greatest dog GIFs of all time.  I really, really need a dog guys!!

Harland Miller is a London based-writer and artist who has created some pretty cool Penguin book covers for his latest show.

Another artist from Mexico, Carlos Amorales has an installation called Black Cloud which is made up of 30 000 black paper moths.  It's breathtaking!

The Hindu festival of Holi is someting that has always caught my eye.  So many colours!  Anyway, German photographer Katrin Korfmann captured some truly amazing aerial pictures.

This poster detailing the power of magical white beards based on length made me smile.  More proof that Gandalf kicks ass!

When you are as clumsy as me, a tablecloth that improves with spillage pretty much sounds like a dream come true.  Check them out here.

Want to see Elrond and Thranduil as penguins?  Of course you do, click here.  Gotta love penguins, or if you are the Ice King, little tuxedo people.

I can't think of anything better than a couch made of marshmallows.  So soft and squishy.  Japanese designer Kei Harada has created one that's come pretty close at least in looks.

We had a quiet New Years this year so we missed out on any fireworks but this video of fireworks in reverse more than makes up for it:

LEGO are making a Marvel video game!!  Such awesome news.  I have played the Harry Potter and Star Wars LEGO adaptations and loved both. This one will feature Wolverine and Loki among others.  Officially excited.

Staying with LEGO, they are also releasing an official Back to the Future set!  I might actually be tempted to buy this one!

These pictures show what paint looks like before the tint is mixed in.  So unusual.

Now this is the kind of installation I can really appreciate.  Leah Foster makes these amazing 10 ft tall cupcake towers!  Yum!!

And finally, a video of all the Stan Lee cameos including the Avengers, you're welcome:

Things I Love #23

This the last Things I Love of 2012!!  Can you believe we are at the ass-end of the year already?  Me neither.  Anyway, I will be on leave from the 21st of December so I am going to take a little blogging break until I go back to work on the 8th of January.  Although I am fairly sure it'll be impossible, I am going to try and take a little break from the internet as well.  We'll see how that one works out!!  Without further ado (I like that saying), here's Things I Love #23:

Kat Von D's Wonderland Gallery is hosting a Skulls show at the moment that I would just love to see.  They are all anatomically correct and absolutely beautiful to look at!  I find the human head bone very aesthetically pleasing!!  Anyway, you can check out some of the work here.

Need a good way to waste some time?  Visit The Useless Web, click the button and be directed to one of the many useless websites floating about out there.  Hours of fun. Okay maybe not hours but still...

My new Domo arrived in the post yesterday!!  Out of all the Series 4 ones available, I managed to get my first choice...hooray!

Speaking of yesterday, I had my Tragus pierced yesterday and I can report that A) it's not that sore and B) I did not hear a pop.  I LOVE the way it looks.

Have you guys seen Paolo Pedroni's digital paintings? So, so pretty although they do remind me a lot of Mark Ryden.

I read Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass for varisty and it's one of my favourites.  You can listen to a reading here.

Are We Becoming Cyborgs?  Very interesting (but long) read from the NY Times.

We went to see The Hobbit on Thursday night.  I really, really enjoyed it!!  I definitely recommend checking it out but be warned - there is a lot that is NOT in the book!

And, while we're on the subject of Middle Earth, this video made me laugh!!

Do you know that you can follow the worlds first live-tweeting hamster on Twitter?  Created as part of a competition, his cage uses heat, motion and pressure sensing technology to work out where he is and what he is doing.  You can finds Squeaks' tweets here.

Here are twelve new book titles brought to you by the Random House Penguin merger.

Angela Datre is a photographer from New York who does an awesome job of capturing the energy of live punk shows.

The Scattered Crowd installation is made up of thousands of suspended white balloons.  It's absolutely gorgeous!!

source
Lastly, Catherine Nelson is a digital artist who uses hundreds of photos to create amazing floating worlds.  They look absolutely magical!

And that's pretty much it for this Things I Love!!  I'll be back next year with more internet randomness to share with you all!!  You can check out the rest of this years Things I Love here.

Things I Love # 13

I totally forgot to post Things I Love yesterday afternoon.  We went couch shopping for the bazillionth time and at long last our patience (aka procrastination) paid off.  The fact that the springs on my side of our very, very old and well used couch completely gave out during the week was a great motivator.  Anyway, our shiny new couch is arriving tomorrow afternoon and I am like a kid before Christmas, all excitement and anticipation!  Now, before I get completely carried away, lets move on to the slightly belated Things I Love #13:

Big Bang Theory.  We recently started watching this show from season one and to say that I love it would be a complete understatement.  Dr Sheldon Cooper is too awesome!

source

Two awesome new Tumblrs:  Pin-up Robert Downey Jr which is both hilarious and a bit disturbing and Batman Running Away from Shit because, according to the site, 60’s Batman was a coward.

This internet flowchart is an accurate description of my day, most days.

These Ideas in boxes from Malva are super cool.  For R250 you get box frame and one idea.  You can make your own to add or you can buy extra ideas for R30.  Love it!

This Woe Anchor t-shirt from the Orphan’s Arms is gorgeous.  The right colour, the perfect print but for those of us converting Rands to Pounds, the wrong price *sigh*

source

As a follow-up to Things I Love #12, I present the superhero Manatees.   I don’t know what it is about these creatures but they are so cool…

Sleep and I have a love/hate relationship.  I love to sleep but for some reason my body doesn’t.  It stays awake and thinks about the next day, what the hamster is doing and whether that is a friendly noise or a break-in.  Anyway, this post on getting a good nights sleep from Gala Darling is full of helpful tips.

This article about Ubuntu at work in Norway is pretty amazing and something we can all learn from.

One of my Facebook friends linked to OMFG Dogs and I love it!  Cute and completely pointless.

In exactly 3 days, I will be hanging out with my friend the Povey!  Yay!

These bone accessories by OS Accessories are super cool.  The Fishbone is my favourite:

source

And on the subject of accessories and bones, LOOK AT THIS RING:

Yes it belongs to me and yes I am marginally obsessed with its awesomeness.

This article about Individualism in Overdrive  is pretty interesting.  And scary.

This amazing shadow photography by Alexey Bednij.

Sad Stuff found on the street makes me thing I am not the only person who occasionally feels bad for inanimate objects.

DIY Panda earrings on Glossary.  What a cute idea!

And lastly, as cheesy as this may sound, my love for all things Shakespeare and all things theatre totally got a kickstart last week.  I went to check out the  'The Compleat Wrks of Wllm Shkspre (ABRIDGED) last week Thursday and loved every minute of it!  Sadly the show has finished it’s run but should it ever reappear, I highly recommend checking it out.
