Happy December you guys.  Can't believe there are only 31 days left of 2013!!  Rolo the hamster got an early Christmas present this afternoon when I cleaned his cage which is why this picture is at the tops of this week's list:

What a week! I've definitely been experiencing a low after the ridiculous high of bout weekend.  I also suddenly have all this free time and I'm not sure what to do with it!!  Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining but seriously, now that life is back to a normal pace, I'm going to have to adjust a bit.  Crazy right?  Anyway, on to other things:

First up, DeviantArt user TsaoShin has re-imagined Grumpy Cat as various Disney characters.  My favourite is Grumpy Cat as Jasmine from Aladdin!!

Things I Love #52

It's a long weekend in these parts and it couldn't have come at a better time.  I can't tell you guys how awesome it feels knowing that I don't have to get up tomorrow morning and face traffic and work and, and, and...want to know what else is awesome?  The fact that I got my very first birthday present this weekend.  My friend Collette sent my gift down to Durban with her sister AND gave me permission to open it straight away.  She knows me too well, there is no way on earth I would've been able to wait until my actual birthday!!  I got a Darth Vader Torch, a Spongebob t-shirt and a 30th badge which I apparently have to wear on my actual birthday...thanks Chicken, you're the best!

How cool are these snack-inspired beanbags?  I love the pancake ones and the ice-cream cone!

Feeling down?  This website of a pug liking your screen will definitely cheer you up.

Things I Love #46

Another Sunday, another list of things I love.  We had a long weekend in this part of the world and, combined with a day of leave, I have been off for 4 days in a row!  Bliss!!

First on this week's list is the amazing cartoon depicting Hayao Miyazaki's philosophy on good and evil in films.  It's profound!

Have you heard of weird Twitter?  Me neither until I read this explanation.

The second episode of Bee and Puppycat is out.  Do yourself a favour and check out this awesomely quirky series, you won't be disappointed.

Check out Merilee Allred's The Awkward Years Project.  A good reminder that we all had an awkward phase...

Things I Love #43

Growing up I was completely anti team sports.  I rode horses and I swam and I was good at those things because it was just me.  I was just too shy to really interact with a team.  Today, I went to buy myself a helmet and skate padding to go with my shiny new skates because I think I have finally found a team sport that I could get into.  It's early days still but so far, I am loving being on skates and I am loving the idea of roller derby.  Now, moving on to other things I love:

Am I too old for a R2-D2 princess dress? Possibly but it's still very cool.

Look at this Lumpy Space Princess Tutu from We Love Fine.  I'd never wear it but it's still pretty to look at.

Also in Adventure Time, Is BMO a Third-Wave Feminist? Super interesting video about all the different things BMO means:

I just love these Macarbre Gadget Skull rings...I'll take one of each please!

If, like me, you were wishing you were at the San Diego Comic Con then check out the round ups on The Mary Sue for Day One, Day Two and Day Three.

Speak, Memory.  A very interesting read from The New York Review of Books about real vs invented memories.

14 Things You Didn't Know About Neil Gaiman.  I only knew one of these...

I don't wear heels but these Batman Heels with Swarovski Crystals and Glitter from Etsy might just change my mind.

Now these I might be more inclined to wear, LEGO Building Brick Slippers from Think Geek:

source

Henry Hargreaves has taken some interesting photos of what musicians order backstage.

This week there has been two awesome articles one on the NY Times and the other on Salon about creating characters. Definitely worth a read.

Something else worth a read is Jon Negroni's Pixar Theory.  I see some re-watching in my future...

I love this Cut Along the Dotted Line jewellery from Etsy seller lapinPetite.  Such a unique idea!

Periodic Tableware is a super awesome Kick Starter to create glassware based on the type of glass equipment used in labs.  Best part, its already fully funded.

A TED Talk that might turn every man who watches it into a feminist.  Worth the 20 mins it takes to watch.

And finally, here is an interesting article from the AV Club about The Art of Death in Superhero Comics.

See anything you love this week?  Let me know in the comments:)

Things I Love #41

What a cool weekend it has been - mexican food with friends, two awesome dogs to play with, the Durban July and Wakaberry with Sam!  All that goodness makes it just a little bit harder to go into work tomorrow *sigh*  Anyway, after 3 weeks (I think) of no Things I Love, I have quite a collection of links/pictures/randomness to share with you today:

Today I had Wakaberry for the first time in months!!  They had peanut butter flavour and speckled eggs which is officially my new favourite combination.

How beautiful are these abandoned places?  Out of all of them I'd choose to explore Nara Dreamland in Japan (#30), the Maunsell Sea Forts in England (#14) and the fishing hut in Germany (#6).

The Decline and Fall of the English Major.  As an English major and now an English Honours student, I found this rather interesting.

22 Things Poncho the Pug is Better at than You.  Isn't he just the cutest?!?

Boston Shoes is an amazing project that asked anyway involved (running, responding or simply watching) in the Boston Marathon bombings to submit a photo of their shoes.

So did you know that there is a Russian Criminal Tattoo Archive?  Me neither!!  Check out some pics here.

WTF, Evolution? is my new favourite Tumblr.  Funny and truly bizarre.

Okay, We Love Fine officially have the best leggings in the business!  Marvel, Sanrio and most importantly...ADVENTURE TIME.

source
Speaking of Adventure Time, I honestly want ALL of this Adventure Time art from Mondo...so beautiful!

These high speed photos of exploding lightbulbs filled with objects are super awesome.  And colourful.

This slide show of adorable dogs enjoying summer is exactly as promised...ADORABLE!

I may not be British but this list of 30 Very British Problems kinda describes me life.  You can also find them on twitter.

The Fiction show at the Modern Eden Gallery features portraits of literary characters that are breathtaking!  I'd love to be able to see this in real life...

The Little Free Library is possibly one of the best ideas I have seen in ages.  I'd love to be able to set one up somewhere some day!

These sci-fi author portraits by Megan Murphy are too cool.  Edgar Allan Poe is my favourite.

I may not be super sciencey but this 3D Printed Subatomic Particle Jewelry is gorgeous!

Honestly, I am kinda desperate for a local convention to appear so that I can dabble in cosplaying.  These Hipster Disney Princesses and Mermaid Avengers are not helping.

And finally, Poko the Cockatiel wants to sing you the Totoro theme:

Things I Love #37

Well, we have reached the last Sunday in May.  This weekend has felt far too short in comparison to the awfully long and busy week I had last week.  I honestly think I would be more productive if we had 3 day weekends.  I'd be a lot more rested for one thing!  Anyway, here's what I managed to find this week in amongst the chaos:

One thing I don't have in my toy collection is a Dunny *shock horror*  Anyway, I really like the look of the sideshow themed Dunny 2013 Collection.  I would be legitimately happy to have any of them:)

source
How adorable are these made to order Sloth Rings by Curious Burrows on Etsy?  I am absolutely in love with this idea!  Actually, I am absolutely in love with the whole shop!

Here are some unlikely cross-overs between Japanese and American pop culture including kawaii Batman and Wolverine is a dress!

LEGO Voldemort goes wand shopping...this lego stop motion made me laugh:

I want both of these Hidden Pencil Notebooks from the MoMA Store.  Also, the Tim Burton playing cards...they look like the characters from The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy.

I wish Facebook would take Jaime Calderon's cue and develop some Superhero Like Buttons.  I think I like The Flash the most.

MILK:  What will you make of me? is an absolutely stunning photographic collaboration between Alexa Mead and Sheila Vand.  I won't even attempt a description, go and have a look!

While we're on the subject of photo series, check out Ghosts of War by Dutch historian Jo Hedwig Teeuwisse.  She blends modern day pics with photos from World War II and the result is haunting to say the least.

I recently discovered the Furry Bones series and I cannot believe I didn't know about them sooner!!  They are basically perfect for me.  It goes without saying that I want them all but I will settle for Flappy and Black Bun-Bun:

Things on Hazel's Head is a tumblr full of things on Hazel the corgi's head.  Guaranteed to make you smile!

30 Indispensable Writing Tips from Famous Authors.  I think I am going to print out the Ray Bradbury one and stick it on my wall.

Bottom Feeders is an amazing collection by ceramic artist Mary O' Malley.  It features cup, teapots and pitchers covered with barnacles and other undersea creatures.

And finally, how great are these photos of abandoned Star Wars sets?  If I could find these, I would totally make it my mission to visit.

Seen anything you love this week?  Let me know in the comments:)

Things I Love #36

So, tomorrow I have my last lecture of my first semester back at university!  Crazy right?  June is going to be full of essays and studying and exams so I am going to make the most of what's left of May!  In other news...I have no other news really so here's this weeks list:

Here's a rather old Time interview (2005!!) with Neil Gaiman and Joss Whedon.  What a great combination.

These Angelique Houtkamp necklaces are so, so beautiful!  I just wish they were more within my price range because then I would have this one, this one and this one.

Have you read Angeline Jolie's NY Times op-ed yet?  I totally support her choice and I think it's an incredibly brave move especially in light of what she does and what she represents.

I love this variant cover for Brain Woods' new X-Men series...just perfect!

The Mary Sue got an exclusive look at the covers for Adventure Time Candy Capers #2 and they are super cool!  They also got a sneak preview of Fionna and Cake #5.

And speaking of exclusive looks, Bleeding Cool have an AWESOME preview of the first issue of The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.

Dirty Royal played their first show at Live - The Venue last night and it was awesome.  They opened for Dance You're On Fire who were pretty great as well:

So you can take a look at F. Scott Fitzgerald'a ledger online and it's as awesome as it sounds.  From the site:

"F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Ledger is one of the richest primary source documents in existence for any literary author. Fitzgerald began recording information in this business ledger sometime in 1919 or 1920 after leaving the Army and moving to New York to begin his professional life as a writer."

Also, here are 16 things that F. Scott Fitzgerald doesn't want you to worry about.  Taken from a letter to his daughter.

How The Internet Destroyed the Middle Class.  A super interesting interview on Salon.  Lots to think about.

How awesome does a Cake Batter Martini sound?  Definitely need to try one of these!

This floating cloud couch is too cool for words.  It looks like the perfect spot for a nap.

Check out these fan made posters for Star Wars VIII.  I like the first one the most.

On the subject of Star Wars, who wants to make these Jabba the Hutt cookies for me?  I will make you coffee in return and we can have a Star Wars coffee party...or something...

Loving these Post-Punk/New Wave Super Friends by Butcher Billy.  Such a great combination!

Now you can type with cats courtesy of Nekofont.  Man I love the internet!

Things I Love #34

So I have terrible time management skills.  Really, really terrible time management skills.  I have time to update the blog, I think I should update the blog but then I sit on the couch and watch T.V.  I didn't even get half of my reading done this week.  Anyway, I'm already more organized this week so hopefully I can get back to a more regular posting schedule.  Fingers crossed. Now onto Things I Love:

A preview of The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys and an interview with Gerard Way on USA Today.  Two of my favourite things *sigh*

This step-by-step guide to Thriller would have come in handy at Collette's wedding.  We could only remember moves 19 and 20 and decided we were doing The Velociraptor instead.  Fun times.

Forget copyright!  We've always stolen music. Interesting article from Salon about the politics of copyrights.

An interesting excerpt from Homeward Bound: Why Woman are embracing the New Domesticity.  For someone who is terrible at domesticity I am not sure what I think of all this.

Whiter Moral Courage?  Salman Rushdies NY Times op-ed will make you think.

On a lighter note, I tried this drippy nail tutorial from Honesty WTF and its AMAZING!!  Seriously, take a look:

Oh My Geekness has an awesome collection of geeky jewellry.  I want this, this and this please!

Okay, did anyone know it was World Penguin Day on April 25th?  Me neither!!  Here are 10 penguin videos from xojane to help you with your belated celebrations.

Rozenn LG makes awesome paper art.  That is all.

Jason Liwag makes gorgeous art inspired by pop culture.  So many cool pieces but I think I like this one the most.

Tree library lets you read books on the street.  Honestly, I can't think of anything better!

Star Wars characters reimagined as character from Chinese folklore.  Joseph Chiang has done a brilliant job with these.  I want them all!!

Ever wondered what caffeine looks like?  Check out the Wellcome Image awards for that and other super cool science pics.  Caffeine is number 5.

LOVE this Star Wars Occupation flowchart from Visual.ly.  I ended up with Ewok Chief.  Let me know where you end up.

This ad campaign for Reporters without Borders does an amazing job highlighting the dangers of censorship.  Pretty pertinent seeing they've finally passed the Secrecy Bill:(

Today I made Hello Kitty cupcakes.  They turned out awesomely.  Probably because they came from a box.  I'll share my adventures in baking later this week but in the meantime I leave you with this:

And lastly, here are the 30 Happiest Facts of All Time.  If this doesn't leave you with a smile on your face I just don't know.

Things I Love #31

Things I have learnt this week:  I am a terrible procrastinator.  If anyone has a magical cure for this I'd love for you to send it my way.  Also, I need to be a bit more organised.  Having a blog schedule is a great idea but I do still have to write the posts.  Anyway, moving along, here are the things I found while procrastinating on the internet this week:

Diana from Our City Lights has the most awesome, pink Hello Kitty kitchen.  If I wasn't allergic to being in the kitchen, I would want mine to be as awesome as this.

Iron Fist have started making nail stickers!!!  And the best part is that they follow the designs they use on their shoes and other accessories.  Even though I could buy them all, I particularly want the Zombie Stompers, American Nightmare and Siesta Skull ones.

Speaking of things I want, I pretty much want all of the nerdy earrings on this list.  All of them.

Also, you can preorder the first issue of the True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys!  There is a variant cover by Gabriel Ba which is equally cool.  After the break up of MCR, my excitement for this comic has increased x 1000.

Mandy from Chocolate and Cream Cake shared this link to a 1987 Nes Great Gastby game and it is too cool.  Also, if you don't already follow her Nerd News on a Thursday you should go and check it out immediately.

Haruki Murakami's new novel was released on Friday.  Its called Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage and I can't wait for a translated version to appear.

Humans of New York Captures Punk's Enduring Influence.  A friend posted this link on Facebook last week and it's pretty cool.

Look at this Adventure Time cake!!!  Seriously starting to wonder if I should change my 30th birthday party them from Star Wars to something more general so I can include my other obsessions...

Storm-Tossed Memories is a collection of photos found after Hurricane Sandy.

And on a lighter note, Found Photos collect random pictures found on file sharing sites.  Pretty interesting what some people choose to share...

This is a pretty interesting article about covering your tattoos.  I am planning a much more visible tattoo this time round so this is a topic I've been thinking about a lot.

It's getting colder in this part of the world and I am desperately searching for interesting tights.  In the meantime, I want everything on this site!  Especially the stars, the polka dots and the stripes.  I love the stripes...

Apparently making your dog wear tights is a new fad in China?  I just think it looks weird...

Why Dogs Rule Literature but Cats Run the Web.  I loved this...

I love these Light Socks.  I would hang them EVERYWHERE!!

Floating Letters Made of Hair and Other Unusual Items.  Type with a difference...

Ida Frosk recreates famous art works as breakfast. Honestly though, I think they are too pretty to eat!

Have you seen anything you love online this week? Feel free to share in the comments:)
