Things I Love #67

Things that have been awesome about this week:  my skates are almost here, I haven't had to drive in the rain because its been perfect weather for days now, I downloaded Adventure Time Card Wars and it's been another super fun weekend.  Here's what's been awesome on the internet:

Lego movie posters for Best Picture nominees.  And a few other movies too!

These shoes were made for walking (and toothy grins)!

Stones & Bones:  Illustrations on rocks and skulls.  So amazing.

Funko Pop!  Ghostbusters figures are coming:

Heartwarming Cartoon-like portraits by Geoffrey Guillin.  Love the big eyes.

Mutant Veggies.  That is all.

The world's 19 most imaginative insults.

Olympic skiing is better with AT-ATs:

Sports Illustrated's absurd, trolling Barbie cover,  This is lame on so many levels...

Rodarte's Fall-Winter Collection is Star War-themed.

9 Haiku poems from deep-thinking cats.

11 Untranslatable words you didn't know existed.

And finally, pandas in the snow:

Things I Love #42

Right now the internet is full of news of the upcoming San Diego Comic Con and, as per usual, the desire to be there myself is overwhelming.  It's definitely one of our long term goals to go.  We'll need a ton of cash though because I know I will want to buy ALL OF THE THINGS.  Daydreams aside, here's what I loved this week:

Malala Yousafzai is AMAZING.  Not only did she stand up to the Taliban and survive an assassination attempt but she's also addressed the UN on her 16th birthday.

Since I bought my piggy planter at the I Heart Market, I've been on the lookout for awesome animal DIYs.  Buzzfeed has a collection 14 that I'd really like to try starting with the Plastic Animal Taxidermy Plaques.

Also on Buzzfeed, 38 Signs You're a Basset Hound.  The puppies on this list are so adorable!!

Goodreads have put together an interesting infographic about the Psychology of Abandonment.

One of the biggest reasons I wish I was going to SDCC this year?  This amazing Wolverine Labbit!!

source

I want everything in this awesome new The Walking Dead clothing line from Her Universe.

There is a new Ratchet and Clank coming!  Yay!

The Revolution will be Crowd-funded.  An interesting interview with Alan Moore from Salon.

The Secret Toy Society is possibly one of the coolest ideas I have seen in a long time.  Basically you make a toy and leave it somewhere for someone to find.  Just the idea makes me smile.

Neon Werewolf takes photos of everyday Wookies and they are just as awesome as they sound.

Have you seen these Star Wars inspired Mickey Mouse ears from Etsy?  I'd like the Boba Fett ones please.

Street Art Utopia put together this list of some of the year's best street art.  Blows my mind.

Look at this Totoro hat form Scotako Boutique on Etsy.  I need this in my life before Winter ends....

On the subject of Totoro, look at this adorable Pickachu/Totoro mashup I saw on Tumblr:

source unknown

The NeuroKnitting project turns brainwave activity into awesome knitted scarves.  Awesome.

Hello Kitty gets her first comic, launches fan-fiction contest.  In another SDCC exclusive, Sanrio is releasing a Hello Kitty comic called Hello Kitty Fashion Music Wonderland inspired by Alice in Wonderland.

I am in love with these Day of the Dead Nightmare Before Christmas Funko Pop toys.  They are available for pre-order and I am definitely going to try get my hands on Jack:

Lastly, I am fairly sure I have the best parents ever.  Today they surprised me with a Kindle!  Yay!! Thanks guys, I love you both!!!

Things I Love #37

Well, we have reached the last Sunday in May.  This weekend has felt far too short in comparison to the awfully long and busy week I had last week.  I honestly think I would be more productive if we had 3 day weekends.  I'd be a lot more rested for one thing!  Anyway, here's what I managed to find this week in amongst the chaos:

One thing I don't have in my toy collection is a Dunny *shock horror*  Anyway, I really like the look of the sideshow themed Dunny 2013 Collection.  I would be legitimately happy to have any of them:)

source
How adorable are these made to order Sloth Rings by Curious Burrows on Etsy?  I am absolutely in love with this idea!  Actually, I am absolutely in love with the whole shop!

Here are some unlikely cross-overs between Japanese and American pop culture including kawaii Batman and Wolverine is a dress!

LEGO Voldemort goes wand shopping...this lego stop motion made me laugh:

I want both of these Hidden Pencil Notebooks from the MoMA Store.  Also, the Tim Burton playing cards...they look like the characters from The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy.

I wish Facebook would take Jaime Calderon's cue and develop some Superhero Like Buttons.  I think I like The Flash the most.

MILK:  What will you make of me? is an absolutely stunning photographic collaboration between Alexa Mead and Sheila Vand.  I won't even attempt a description, go and have a look!

While we're on the subject of photo series, check out Ghosts of War by Dutch historian Jo Hedwig Teeuwisse.  She blends modern day pics with photos from World War II and the result is haunting to say the least.

I recently discovered the Furry Bones series and I cannot believe I didn't know about them sooner!!  They are basically perfect for me.  It goes without saying that I want them all but I will settle for Flappy and Black Bun-Bun:

Things on Hazel's Head is a tumblr full of things on Hazel the corgi's head.  Guaranteed to make you smile!

30 Indispensable Writing Tips from Famous Authors.  I think I am going to print out the Ray Bradbury one and stick it on my wall.

Bottom Feeders is an amazing collection by ceramic artist Mary O' Malley.  It features cup, teapots and pitchers covered with barnacles and other undersea creatures.

And finally, how great are these photos of abandoned Star Wars sets?  If I could find these, I would totally make it my mission to visit.

Seen anything you love this week?  Let me know in the comments:)

Things I Love #32

Another Sunday, another Things I Love post. What was supposed to be a fairly busy weekend become a super quiet one which is just as well because it's been cold and wet and perfect for the couch:)

What if all the Disney Princesses were sloths?  Phillip Light shows us exactly how cool that would be.

How great are these floral Porcelain Skulls by NooN?

source
This is a very interesting (and open ended) conversation on cultural appropriation.  While I don't agree with everything that was said, it definitely made me thing.

For every awesome old photo, there is an equally creepy one.  Like these old pictures of humans that look like zombies!

Apparently April the 13th was National Scrabble Day!  The Daily Beast celebrated with this poem to remember all 101 two-letter words!!

I basically want everything in the HoraEffect Etsy store.  Especially this, this and this!

The Sinking World of Andreas Franke is an amazingly beautiful exhibition that's on display 27 metres underwater on a sunken ship!  Crazy!!

This is my favourite part of the English department!  It's even a pun!!

BMO is getting his own Funko Pop Vinyl toy!!  In other Adventure Time news, Finn, Jake and Marceline should be shipping this week.  Can't wait!

Then and Now is an awesome site that has before and after pictures of just about everything.

I might have posted this before but just in case I haven't you should check out Gregoire Guillein's Secret Hero Life collection.  So cool!

I will unashamedly buy all of these Star Wars dog costumes for our future dog.  All of them.

How adorable is this photo of Rolo?  He looks like he's smiling *heart melts*

And finally, Dirty Royal are on YouTube!!  Here's some super awesome live footage from Splashy:

Things I Love #20

What a strange afternoon.  We just had a thunderstorm complete with lightning and rain, while the sun was happily shining outside.  Durban weather has been particularly bizarre the last few weeks that I really don't know what to wear on any given day!  Thursday actually felt like the return of winter!  Anyway, enough chit chat about the weather, here is Things I Love #20:

First on my list this week, the first batch of My Chemical Romance's Conventional Weapons.  The first two songs, Boy Division and Tomorrow's Money are great!  Find them here if you're interested.

For anyone tired of politics and elections and politicians in general, here are 16 reason why hedgehogs are better than politicians.  Complete with tons of cuteness.

I am such a huge Deadliest Catch fan, Captain Sig and the Northwestern are my boat and crew aside from the Cornelia Marie which is sadly not sailing this season.  Anyway, you can imagine my excitement at finding Northwestern merch online!  Very tempted to buy this shirt:

source

The Tim Walker: Story Teller exhibition looks really, really stunning.  I'm not hugely into fashion but I think Tim Walker's photos are outstanding.

The Oatmeal is on of my favourite time wasting sites on the internet.  Here is a handy guide to preparing your pets for war.

These aerial shots of Iceland's volcanos are breathtaking!

Customised Star Wars My Little Ponies.  They are all super cool but I think the Storm Trooper is my favourite.

Midnight's Children is my favourite Salman Rushdie novel and I am really looking forward to seeing how it translates on screen.  Here's the official trailer:

You've got to love some of the stuff you can find on Tumblr...like Cats That Look Like Pin Up Girls.  Hilarious!

On the topic of tumblr, the Kanye Wes Anderson tumblr combines still from Wes Anderson movies with Kanye West's lyrics.  They go surprisingly well together!

I love this Flying House photo series by Laurent Chehere.  So unusual and whimsical.

Sakir Gokcebag makes the most amazing installations using toilet paper.

Here is a preview of the Apocalypse 3-inch Dunny series.  I wish for this one:

source

This list of things that would happen in a perfect world has got pretty much everything covered.  I especially like the ones about texts and movie sequels.  Oh and the one about everything coming in your favourite colours!

Kate MccGwire is an artist who "probes the beauty inherent in duality, exploring the play of opposites - at an aesthetic, intellectual and visceral level - that characterises the way we conceive the world."  Her work is definitely worth a look.

I wish I was more competent in the kitchen because I'd really like to make these dumplings.  Yum!

Lastly, while I don't really like spiders, this spider that my mom found is quite unusual!  Look at the purple legs!

And that's all folks!

Things I Love #14

Oops!  I forgot to post Things I Love yesterday.  I don't even have a good excuse aside from the couch was very comfy and I was very sleepy:)

First up, more Labbits!  This time they are Smorkin' Mini Labbits.  I know I keep posting about these but I really love them.  They are cute without being too cute and if you know me well, you’ll know that I have a weakness for the cute and useless:

source
One the subject of bunnies, or things that look like bunnies, how cute are these bunny ear rings from the new Mr Price online store?

How to keep your inner jerk in check.  Even the nicest people have an inner jerk and mine seems to be rearing its annoying head more often these days *sigh*

This article on Pinterest, Tumblr and the trouble with curation is really interesting, especially because I am pretty much obsessed with them both!

Beautiful bird huddles…these are just the cutest.  I’d love to have a fat little birdie of my own.

Now you can be a superhero unicorn…haha…I really want this mask!

source
This article on How To Write made me smile.  My favourite line is:

"...when writers put their work out into the world, they’re like kids bringing their broken unicorns and chewed-up teddy bears into class in the sad hope that someone else will love them as much as they do."

This Is Now is an awesome site that uses instagram pics to show what is happening at any given time in some of the worlds biggest cities.

Kyla Roma shared this super cute hedgehog nap in one of her posts and it’s so cute that I have to share it to.  Seriously, my heart just melts when I watch this:

There amazing accessories by Ana Rajcevic let you experience what it might be like to an animal.  I'm not sure if I'd ever wear anything like this but they are definitely eye-catching.

I'm not really a cat person but Alana McCarthy's superhero cat pictures are awesome.  My favourites are the Star Wars one (obviously) and the Cat Avengers one.

This Tetris lamp would be awesome in our lounge.

I know the whole Keep Calm concept is a little over done but this one is definitely on my Etsy wish list:

This Miyazaki Club T-shirt would make me very happy!

And lastly, how great is this mug that my dearest mother gave me?  Love it!

Happy Mini Labbits

source
A little while ago, I mentioned the Happy Mini Labbits series by Frank Kozik and Kidrobot.  They are a blind box collection of 1.5 inch vinyl toys.

When I first read about them, this was the description that caught my attention (aside from the little dude above with an anchor and a mustache): "If you like blowing bubbles, eating ice cream, or have a thing for swashbuckling buns, you'll love these merry mustachioed mammals."  Sounds awesome right?

Anyway, my mom and dad decided to order me some for my birthday.  Kidrobot sadly doesn't ship out to South Africa but they have an official stockist called ToiToy in Cape Town who ship country-wide.  The Labbits arrived just before we left for Malelane and, because they are such nice parents, my mom and dad let me open one early.  Way early considering my birthday is only in October! Here's the one I got:

I guess he is the bubble blowing one!  They are much smaller than I thought (although 1.5 inches should have been a giveaway) but I am really happy with it!  Now I have to wait patiently to get the rest.  Only 2 months, 29 days to go...

PS.  I've been looking at the rest of the Labbit range and there are so many cool things including plushies and Labbit hats.  I also came across the product preview for the 8 Deadly Sins Labbit Series.  They look amazing and they are designed by an artist called Kronk who is actually South African!  I see more Labbits in my future.

Things I Love # 10

This week's Things I Love starts off with the The Bark Side ad from Volkswagen.  I realise this isn't exactly new but it is new to me and I think it's just awesome:

The Hello Kitty Beauty Spa.  I'd spend some money here...

This origami street art is gorgeous.  I admire people who have the time and vision to do things like this.

The Neon Museum Boneyard in Las Vegas.  I saw this link on the Lucky Pony blog and it's officially added to my list of places to visit.

My Grandmere had the most amazing collection of little boxes that I used spend many hours playing with when I was younger.  She passed away recently and my mom and dad brought me a few as keep sakes.  I love them and I love the memories they bring back:

Pet Jellyfish….I'd love to have one of these.

I present 3 awesome ways to waste some time:  Attack of the Cute (the most amazing small, squishy animal pics), Dear Blank Please Blank and the very aptly named I Waste So Much Time.

Awesome porcelain boxes designed to look like they are overflowing.

This adequately describes my To Do lists.

Gorgeous and colourful art by Emmanuel Malin.

The awesome things you can do with tape and nail polish:

This tentacle doorstop is too cool, definitely need one...

These amazingly nerdy skirts on Etsy.

What if Doctor Suess wrote Star Wars? Well now you can find out.

The Django Unchained trailer:

Superhero Saints.  This probably won’t appeal to everyone but I like the combination of religious art and superheroes.

Speaking of superhero art, these cubist illustrations by Liam Brazier are pretty amazing.

Brain Cupcakes…kind of weird, kind of cool.

This Boombox cabinet.  Love it.

And also, this chair that holds books.  Perfection!

The art of Jeremy Geddes…amazing.

This article about using undictionaried words was pretty interesting.

And finally, the awesome Misko Mini Owls:

Things I Love #9

I am currently working on an assignment that is due in tomorrow so I have cleverly scheduled this post instead of trying to squeeze everything in.  With any luck I am actually done with it already and lazing on the couch.  Anyway, todays list starts with:

The Happy Labbits Mini Series by Frank Kozik and Kidrobot.  This description is all the convincing I need:  "If you like blowing bubbles, eating ice cream, or have a thing for swashbuckling buns, you'll love these merry mustachioed mammals." I desperately want this little guy, mostly because of the anchor:

source
Jason Every Design aka the husband’s website has just had an upgrade and is looking very slick.  Check it out here.

I am marginally obsessed with Text from Dog.  October Jones gets texts from his dog and they are hilarious.  If this site doesn’t make you laugh and wish to own a smart mouthed bulldog then nothing will.

Filthy Luker street art.  This stuff is amazing!!

This Apollo Mission Necklace from The Science Boutique on Etsy.  Definitely adding this store to my favourites!

source

This skull chair is fantastic!  I would like it in my house please.

Along with these super cool triangular shelves.

Lego Moleskine notebooks.  Clearly you are never too old to own Lego.

The Die Young illustration series by Ben Brown.  Colourful and creepy.

The Great Gatsby trailer…I can't begin to explain how much I want to see this movie!

This amazing embroidery art by Hendrik Stroebel.  I helped my mom out at the KZNQG and they had a talk about this guy.  He is amazing.  If you are in Durban in November, he is having a solo show at the KZNSA.  Who knew that embroidery could be this fascinating!

My gorgeous Lady of the Sea necklace arrived in the post.  I love it!  The service from Cinsational Baubles was amazingly fast and I will definitely be ordering another one ASAP!

Frankenweenie poster!!  Can’t wait to see this.

source

Apple and Beetroot juice from Woolworths.  Its super yummy and the colour is so vibrant.

Wookie the Chew.  This is beyond cool and appeals to my childhood love of Pooh Bear and my lifelong obsession love for Star Wars.
